I stopped believing in New Year resolutions a long time ago. Self-improvement shouldn’t just be reserved for January! It should be a year-round life-long pursuit.
Still, there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of fun while stumbling through life, eh? For 2012, I thought I’d play a little game with myself. I’m curious to see what the outcome will be and what I will have learned by the end of the year.
Here are the guidelines:
- Launch one business by the end of every month.
- Stop working on current month’s business as soon as next month begins. The key being that each business will be designed to generate income ON ITS OWN with no further input from me.
That’s all there is to it. Anything else is fair game. I am only limited by my imagination. If I need to, I’ll spend a little money to get things started but no more than what it would cost to set up a website.
Why do this at all? I have all these great business ideas that I’ve always wanted to set in motion but I get caught up with stupid details that scare the bejeezus out of me. Not only that, my ideas have a habit of growing bigger and bigger until they become so monstrous that I have no idea where to begin. This should force me to narrow my focus and actually commit plans into action without being held back by fear of failure.
I want to start changing the way I think about money. Instead of working for money, wouldn’t it make a whole lot more sense to grow a magical money tree that throws dollar bills at me? Er…how about I explain it this way: Let’s say I only make $1 a month from each business. Well, by the end of the year, I should be getting $12 a month from income that magically generates on its own.
Even if the amount of money is negligible, think of all the wisdom I will have accumulated from starting twelve businesses!

Anyone else want to join me in starting twelve businesses in twelve months in the year 2012? At the very least, we might as well have some fun with ourselves before the world implodes on us…
